Lose Weight Healthily – Dr Chan shares the importance of focusing on Gaining Health, not just on Losing Weight, and 3 things that he would always emphasize to his patients who see him for help to lose weight.

There are many ways to lose weight, including many unhealthy, unsafe and unsustainable ones, therefore regardless of what one chooses to do to lose weight, it is important to always focus on safety, prioritise health and aim for sustainability.

Just because certain methods, diets, programmes have proven to be effective in helping one lose weight, it does not mean that they are safe, healthy or even sustainable. In evaluating and making choices on what to do to lose weight, the goal must be to lose weight safely, healthily and sustainably.

Dr. Oz explains the Total 10 Rapid Weight-Loss Plan, a diet plan that’s protein-fueled to help you rev up your metabolism and shed pounds.

Obesity remains at epidemic levels among U.S. adults and it’s a growing concern with children as well. Since the early 1990s, weight-loss surgery — or bariatric surgery — has been a vital treatment option for obese adults.

While dieting and regular exercise for those who are moderately overweight may prove successful, such commitments to lifestyle changes are mostly ineffective for those who are severely obese.

Who is a prime candidate for weight-loss surgery?

“A good candidate for bariatric surgery includes somebody who has tried and failed medically supervised weight-loss programs for their obesity,” says Anthony Gonzalez, director of bariatric surgery at South Miami Hospital, which offers three weight-loss surgeries. “Somebody who is stable, psychologically and socially. Someone who does not have an addiction to drugs or alcohol. And someone who has the correct social support to be successful in the long run.”
