So come, let’s first discuss, what is glutathione? And how is it beneficial for skin lightening? Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant, which gets formed on its own in your body. This protects your cells from damage and exposed chemicals. It also stimulates your immune system. It also protects your skin from oxidative stress.

It destroys free radicals and removes the harmful toxins from your body. It is also essential for enzymatic activation, that is, for the metabolic and biochemical reactions of your body. Moreover, it is also beneficial for the skin. It helps to lighten skin.

See, the color of your skin depends on melanin, which lends color to your skin. This melanin is produced in cells called melanocytes. When these melanocytes start producing more melanin, then your skin starts getting darker and when the melanin production starts reducing, your skin tone starts lightening.

Glutathione has anti-melanogenic properties. This inhibits an enzyme called tyrosinase. This in turn reduces melanin production. This decreases the darker eumelanin and increases the lighter pheomelanin, leading to lighter and fairer skin tone. That’s why glutathione is very effective in skin lightening.
